Trek-In Prefab Cabin Offers Luxury Sustainable Lodgings for Campers Trek In Hikers Cabin-Moodworks Architecture – Inhabitat

Trek-In is a cross between the traditional architecture of a home and a tent. The pitched roof design allows for increased sleeping space while the solid wood exterior provides protection from the elements. Each Trek-In is outfitted with a kitchenette with a three-burner stove, refrigerator, running water and kitchen utensils. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and washbasin with hot water provided by a high-efficiency boiler unit. All the lighting is by LEDs and operable windows allow for natural ventilation.

Two built-in double beds and a convertible sofa bed and table allow six to sleep in the Trek-In. Guests can store their gear above the sofa, or out in the closet or storage bench on the deck. The prefab unit is built from FSC-certified wood and many reclaimed materials are used as well. Trek-In was originally designed as part of a competition at the Department of the Built Environment of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), in the Netherlands back in 2010. You can rent a Trek-In cabin at nine different locations around the Netherlands, or purchase one for your own yard. The units are also available as a half size, called the Trek-In Junior, that sleeps up to four but does not include a bathroom.
