To create a new campus center, I approached with the concept of "university village" that I experienced the quality campus lifestyle from the University Village at University of Washington. The "main street" will also serve as a spine connector between the football stadium and Performing Arts Center. Aligned with the “university village” concept, the University incorporates all the elements of successful development- student residences, retail, restaurants, and open gathering spaces. When implemented, this area of the campus will become a destination in its own right, drawing not only students but other patrons in its regional communities to enjoy the atmosphere and new retail and restaurant venues. I intentionally designed the area to be an active streetscape with appropriate pedestrian scale to ensure that the University goals are met and this “university village” becomes a reality. This kind of mixed-use development is critical to support the University growth and transform it from a commuter campus to a campus where students live, learn, play and work.
